Gaming Union had an interview with Final Fantasy XIII Producer Yoshinori Kitase at GamesCom. While most of the interview revolved around The 3rd Birthday, they had some time to talk about Final Fantasy XIII, Agito XIII and Versus XIII. In the interview Kitase mentions that they can't commit themselves to a 2011 release date for either game, and he also explains why the development times seem to be increasing since the old days of the PS1.

More tweets about Final Fantasy Agito XIII

Hajime Tabata share more details regarding what will be shown at TGS, also he shared some development schedules, like 3rd Birthday team joining the Agito one to help finish Agito. Take a look at the translated tweets!

[quote">By the way, the Agito PV is very short but it looks really good. Please see it by all means possible! Get a glimpse of Agito's battlefield settings. @Tabata

As for Agito event-scene, the real-time part is already considerably done. Moreover, the great attention and level of impressiveness to what we've already shown, the developers were like "The expression at which Agito aims is impossible on the PSP" To everyone's happiness it's coming on the PSP. @Tabata

After 3rd is completed we'll shift things up a bit and 3rd team will join us to complete Agito. So time and wait are still necessary. There's an unpublished title in front of Agito that Tetsu talks about so much. Wait for information and announcement in a while! @Tabata

As for both Agito and 3rd, Visual Works (VW) produces the High-End CG part. Each title footage and demonstrations are shown in monitors and everywhere. When I go to the VW Studio floor I just want to stay there and enjoy the moment, it's a treasurable space. @Tabata[/quote">

Tetsuya Nomura tweets about Tokyo Game Show plans

Tetsuya Nomura, director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and character design of Agito XIII revealed Square-Enix plans for the games at Tokyo Game Show this year:

[quote">Well, we're in the midst of our domestic event and doing TGS preparations now. I was in the edit studio yesterday. All PVs have not yet been completed and are in edit stages as of now. Details will come next month even though there're alot of questions regarding TGS. @Nomura

Basically, there will be specific revelations for Public View. The length of information disclosure will be different in each magazine and media. The following titles to open to the public are Re: Coded and 3rd. And little information about FABULA, on a short trailer Versus and Agito put together at this time. @Nomura

The scale of the trailers are short though, there will be a space to show off FABULA and the trailers will be about 1 minute long. We will show footage of those 3 screenshots we release sometime ago at E3 time and move on to new realtime footage of Versus. @Nomura

The footage alone is new to the public, doesn't have the command menus, which were removed. On the other hand, Agito footage is like a brand new debut of a more product-like version. Sorry for not being able to show little and nothing more, that's because the release date for both titles are still undecided @Nomura

The priority of information disclosure is not decided by the announcement order but the release date one. The announcement timing is decided depending on the strategy of each title and the titles to be released are not always the ones who have been announced earlier. It's necessary to see how the team is progressing with development and the scheduling, that way it's inetivable not to have information disclosure and information exposure. @Nomura

[B">Thank you for everybody's attention and compreension. The PV editing for TGS is taking more time than we wanted it to. People won't be able to see them all in the public hall, that's more like a prevention since we're still examining when to open and give away information to the mainstream public on the internet.[/B"> @Nomura[/quote">

Hajime Tabata tweets about Agito XIII graphics

Final Fantasy Agito XIII Director, Hajime Tabata tweeted about the game's ongoing development and focused on the game's graphics:

[quote">"I am suprised to have achieved a real-time quality of high level in development and when I play 3rd and Agito I realized it's far compared to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, in which it's evolved from (the engine). With the PSP Hardware and the excellence of the development team we feel admiration for each other for the execelent work we're doing. @Tabata"[/quote">

Nomura Tweets about Versus

If you've been following The Third Birthday tweets from Square-Enix, you may have noticed that Nomura would be thinking about answering some questions about Versus.

Well, he's been getting his tweet on and so we've created a thread dedicated to everything he tweets about the game. How long will he do this for? Not sure. But thanks to the power of social networking websites, something tells me that those long dry periods of no news won't be so bad in the future since this is just one very good way of companies like Square-Enix to keep in touch with their fans and update them on news.

I mean... People tweeted that they wanted a higher resolution picture of Aya from The Third Birthday. Square-Enix listened to the fans and they got it! Perhaps this could happen with Versus too? :)

*Prays for a very large picture of Stella and that a size of 200,000px would be perfect! :p*

For the first time in a while, it's been a dry spell for news. Even so, the crew still manage to talk about rumours for the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII in Japan and even discuss Tetsuya Nomura being forced to tweet. There are also so fun listener questions to go through in a show that saw the return of David and Lauren and also the introduction of Colin. Not to be missed, that's for sure.

If you've been following The Third Birthday tweets from Square-Enix, you may have noticed that Nomura would be thinking about answering some questions about Versus.

Tetsuya Nomura revealed through a tweet today that both Versus and Agito are presently undergoing voice casting. He mentions that The 3rd Birthday's recording will end shortly and that next up is Agito.

Continuing on Versus, Nomura added, "There have been many questions regarding fields. It's not a completely open world. It's like the 2D FF games in HD. Although, in terms of looks, it's not a top-down view, it's like the screenshots that have been released. You'll move through the world from that view."

Nomura also tweets that Versus and Agito will not show up at Gamesom as well.

Also to mark the occasion, the crew brings an extended show, clocking in at nearly an hour, as they also tackle listener questions on Versus XIII's potential to fail, Tifa getting her own game, and more.
Japanese Xbox 360 version Incoming?

An Achievements list for Final Fantasy XIII has appeared on Xbox.com for a Japanese version of the game. The list of achievements can be seen here. According to XNEWS, almost all previous games which have had Japanese achievements listed on the xbox.com website, were eventually announced for Japan.

Considering Final Fantasy XIII has already been made for the Xbox 360, and the Japanese recordings have already been done, it would make sense for Square Enix to do this as it would be relatively inexpensive to do.

Yoichi Wada on FFXIII's Reception

In a interview with Gamasutra, Yoich Wada was asked about Final Fantasy XIII's reception.

Now that Final Fantasy XIII has launched globally, in the end were you satisfied with its performance and the audience reaction to the title?

YW: Looking at the numbers alone, it is pretty good, because we were able to release the latest Final Fantasy in all three markets of Japan, United States, and Europe in a very short period of time, and we were able to reach 5 million units rapidly -- and I think this product will grow further. But when it comes to the customers' reaction to the quality of the game, some value it highly and some are not very happy with it.

What do you think about how the game turned out?

YW: I think this is a product that was able to meet the expectations for those who know Final Fantasy. There are all kinds of games around in the market today. Should Final Fantasy become a new type of the game or should Final Fantasy not become a new type of game? The customers have different opinions. It's very difficult to determine which way it should go.

What do you think? Should Final Fantasy become a new type of game? Do you think Wada or SquareEnix in general are still in touch with those who know Final Fantasy and what they expect from the franchise? Were you happy with Final Fantasy XIII? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment here or discussing it with other members by clicking the forum link below.

FXN Site Redesign

The site has been long over due for a site redesign, so I am excited to launch the new version of the site.

Some of the things to note are the options at the bottom for the layout. You can expand the layout so that it fit's your browser's screen width, whether it be smaller/larger than the fixed width layout. Also you can use a simplified version of the layout which does not have shadows and rounded edges(The shadows and rounded edges only work in Mozilla/Webkit browsers). You can also expand/collapse the menu categories in case there is a category which does not interest you, it won't waste any space for you.

I hope everyone enjoys the new layout.
