Final Fantasy XIII runs in 576p on Xbox 360

Square Enix recently released some screenshots of Final Fantasy XIII running on the Xbox 360, and after some analysis it was determined that the screenshots were 576p native resolution scaled to 720p. The screenshots were somewhat shady though since there was a mouse pointer in a few of the screenshots, so I took this information with a grain of salt.

However, recently some people have managed to play Final Fantasy XIII on the 360 themselves, and did some more reliable analysis. As it turns out, the results are much worse. Not only is the gameplay 576p, but the CG cutscenes are as well. Compare that with the PS3 version which has 1080p native cutscenes.

Many people have said that graphics do not matter for a game, just as long as the gameplay is good. For the cutscenes though, it is a little different since you do not 'play' the cutscenes, all you can do is watch them. So that argument simply does not work for this situation.

Here are a couple of screenshots of the differences between the two versions. The first is a screenshot from one of the cfutscenes in the PS3 demo released last year with Advent Children Complete, and the other is the same screenshot, scaled down to 576p, then scaled back up to 1080p. This will be an idea on what it will look like if you were playing the game on a Full 1080p screen.
