In the latest Famitsu, it has been confirmed that a re-release of Final Fantasy VIII for PCs is coming in Japan. This has been hinted to happen several times through the Steam registry and achievements leaks. It apparently is going to be similar to a Final Fantasy VII re-release that was made last year and featured game booster options such as increasing your HP, MP and Gil to the possible maximum. It is unclear if it will also feature cloud saving and achievements like VII did, but there is a high possibility that it will. There is still no announcement for the game to be released overseas.

Today, Naoki Yoshida wrote a new Letter from the Producer discussing mostly what has been said during the Nico Nico Chokaigi 2 event in Japan earlier this month. Some of the interesting things he mentions is that pre-orders will be going up by the end of the month, with the information on the release date, pricing and a collector's edition of the game. Here is what he said:
"First and foremost, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will be released in summer 2013. It will be a worldwide release for the PC and PlayStation 3, available in Japanese, English, French, and German. At the end of the month we'll announce the release date, along with pricing and details on the collector's edition. We'll also start accepting preorders at the end of the month.
Our second important announcement was that phase 3 will start at the beginning of June. Phase 3 will include a multitude of changes based on feedback from the first and second phases, as well as the long-awaited
commencement of PlayStation 3 testing. But that's not all—we're also adding Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, nearly one hundred new FATE encounters, four additional dungeons, main scenario quests up to level 20, grand companies, provisioning missions, free companies; we're making revisionsto the battle system, testing the transfer of characters from version 1.0—the list goes on and on. I've been working around the clock, double and triple checking everything along the way, so sit tight and phase 3 will be here before you know it!"

According to Famitsu, Square-Enix still is undecided if the Last Mission content will be added to the Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster. The game right now is based on the North American version of the game. The Japanese release of Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission which came out after the NA release included three extra dress spheres (festivalist, psychic, and bare), a Last Mission event that takes place 3 months after the game ends in a massive new tower, and a system to capture monsters and characters (including some of the old faces like Tidus and Auron). DLC perhaps?
On another note, Square Enix has also opened up the Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster section on their site now, which can be found here.
