Final Fantasy XIII News
Forever-Fantasy.net has translated what was discussed at Square Enix's recent stockholders meeting in Japan. Near the end of the meeting there was a short question and answer period, in which Square Enix President Yoichi Wada took part in:
Q: FF13 is on its way, but in the current game market the more you ship the more your titles end up in used game stores, returning no profit to the developer. Given that, would it be possible for you to rent games out similar to movies? A: Your opinion is very important, thank you very much. The current generation of games all incorporate some type of network connectivity, which means almost all need online resources. Even titles without online play have online rankings, leaderboards and so on. In correspondence with the online component, we believe the restrictions of physical media leading to the used game sales problem can be worked out. Rather than renting out the physical media of titles, we're thinking more along the lines of an online solution. ~Square Enix What this could mean is anyone's guess.

And I do mean ZERO information. This would also explain the prolonged delay of information about ffxiii, if they are adding an MMO feature it would take MUCH longer to develop. The game is split for 3 games....all in the same world.....this is a real logical answer....I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being it. Single player with MMO online optional. Posted By: anon Date: he asked a question about the problem about the game not having "longevity" which results in the game being returned and being on the used shelf. When he responds with the general idea of "keeping things online" to keep them off the used shelves I can only thing of two things, adding lots of downloadable content to keep buyers playing or 2 the game's surprise is it has an MMO mode avaliable like Phantasy star. Alot of the MMO's in development right now are basically single player games that have MMO options built in after that. Kingdom Under Fire II is another one doing exactly that. If SE's plan was to surprise us with a twist in ffxiii as we've heard then this is the only thing that comes to mind. A single player version of ffxiii with Online capabilities for both ps3 versions, to serve both versions of ffxiii and versus it would have been smart to make the MMO merged so even if you only have lets say "versus" the ffxiii MMO world can be access from "either version" Surprise us? Make it Online so it doesn't get returned? This is the only thing that comes to mind. Posted By: tobi Date: i think they are talking about renting them out like on gamefly Posted By: Zagen30 Date: Last time I checked, I've never bought a physical copy of a cell phone game, so I don't think he's talking about Agito. I think he's talking about digital distribution, which, as Warhawk and GT5:Prologue have proven, can be an effective means of distributing console games, even ones that are Blu-Ray sized. Plus, how many people own a PS3 but no way to connect it to the internet (maybe not hooked up all the time, but with some access)? Many people (me included) prefer to have a physical copy of a game, but there are many others who would be happy downloading it. Saves you the hassle of reserving a copy, waiting for the midnight release (if you don't really enjoy that kind of thing, of course there are many people, especially FF fans, who love release parties), or any of the other usual obstacles involved in getting your grubby paws on a copy day 1. Posted By: izlude Date: So, um what is he talking about? I don't get it. ^^ Posted By: soul Date: No, he's not. Posted By: Annonymous Date: This is nothing to do with Final Fantasy XIII. Wada is talking about renting mobile games....possibly Agito... Post a Comment |
