I agree that the turn base in a tactics style game slows the game down and can be boring. But there are others like Chrono Trigger and FFVII where they have an ACTIVE turned base. The wonderful thing about these games is it was still fast paced and could adjust the setting to have a faster attack. In Chrono Trigger the active bar would fill and you can skip characters to organize duel or triple attacks. Just because its turned based it doesn’t mean it has to be linear, and I think the fast pace of FFVII and Chrono Trigger showed that. Last point, the gambit system of FFXII was ok. The problem I had with it, as pointed out by Jamie, is that you can set it up the gambits and you don’t even have to fight the last boss any more. This system removes the player from the characters. The best part if the FF Series was that we all fall in love with the characters. But in FFXII I couldn’t connect because I had no control of them and they were all the same characters. All the characters could use the same weapons, magic, and armor; there was no individuality amongst the characters.
